What is the difference between "standard of living" and "quality of life"?
What kind life are you seeking for? Is "standard of living" or "quality of life"? In my opinion, "standard of living" is seeking for material, work for money and save money. "Quality of life" is seeking for a health lifestyle, spend time to work and enjoy life with family and friends. I spend most of my life in China. I think people how to choose what kind life is depend on their age.
Most of people who born before 1980, they are more wants standard of living. Because when they were children, they had hard time in their life. So, they attach great importance to material. They work hard, and money is important for them. In addition, more young people are seeking for quality of life. Because since they came from this world, most of them are in a standard life. They have a easy childhood. They want to enjoy life that spend time to relaxed. And spend money for what they want.
What ever what kinds of life you choose, just live in a life what you like and be happy.

I have a feeling that the quality of care in the US probably depends a lot on having good health insurance so there might be difference here if it was controlled for income. http://qualitylifeblog.blogspot.com.au/
